It has been Savage family tradition to play basketball on Thanksgiving morning for at least as long as I have known Ryan. That’s at least 16 years. We start out about 8:00 or 9:00 in the morning. We usually have enough for two teams and sometimes three depending on the number of family in town.
This year was probably our sparsest year in a long time. Ryan had a brother and a Sister that spent this year out of town. Colby and Cameron played for the first time though and that helped us to get our 5 man teams.
There is nothing like a competitive game of basketball to give you a reality check about your level of physical fitness. Fortunately we played at the church in Umatilla and it’s smaller than a full gym.
Of course it would not be true turkey ball if we didn’t finish the morning off with homemade scones and strawberry freezer jam made by Ryan’s mom. That of course does not help my level of physical fitness.
