Heritage Days field trip

I always loved going on field trips when I was in school, missing a hole day of school, not having any homework that night. Spending the day with your friends and eating a cold lunch you packed. Those were good times.

You know it's just not the same when you are 30 something and your on a field trip with a bunch of noisy, wild 8 year olds......... I had fun anyway.

We went to Sacajawea State Park and there were all kinds of displays set up that you could visit. We first visited with a mountain man. He had a shelter set up and all of the supplies a mountain man would have needed to survive in the wilderness. The kids really got a kick out of him.

Next we went and visited these two twin brothers from Seattle that sang traditional music. If you don't know what traditional music is, you are not alone. Apparently traditional music is the type of music Luis and Clark would have sang and played while sitting around the camp fire. They used banjo's, fiddles and guitars.

Next we were off to see the fellows from Sportsman's Warehouse. Believe it or not they gave a very interesting little talk about how technology has changed. Some for the good and some for the not so good. We talked about the changes in guns, bows and arrows and even the evolution of the compass to the g.p.s.


Last but not least we were off to see the dutch oven cooking exhibit. Some of the kids were totally amazed. They had never seen biscuits baked in a pot before.
